Thank you for attending last week's Gaming in Europe webinar titled “The rise of illegal gambling advertising explained. Methods & countermeasures.”
A full recording of the webinar is included below.
During this webinar, our expert speakers – Timothy Malmros Genach, SEO expert, Magenti Media; Dr. Andreas Ditsche, CEO, iGaming.com; Frank op de Woerd, Editor-in-Chief, CasinoNieuws.nl; and Maarten Haijer, Secretary General, EGBA – highlighted several key issues related to the (relative) rise in illegal gambling advertising.
Key findings & takeaways
Most illegal gambling advertising is encountered via search engines and social media.
Illegal operators and affiliates systematically abuse search engine and social media algorithms to boost their own visibility and limit the visibility of licensed offerings.
While Big Tech is capable of limiting the impact of such abuses, it takes few steps to actually do so.
In addition, licensed operators and affiliates servicing the legal market face organized campaigns of cyber harassment, including deliberate copyright infringements, false copyright infringement claims, the threat of frivolous lawsuits, and much more.
Illegal operators and affiliates deliberately target players who are looking for illegal alternatives (“casino without limits,” etc.) to licensed offerings.
The European Commission is currently preparing horizontal legislation (expected to be presented at the end of this year) that would impose bigger liabilities on Big Tech for showing illegal content to EU consumers.
